The International Chinese Statistical Association (ICSA) Executive Committee strongly condemns all the violence and discrimination perpetrated against the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities. The March 16’s violent shootings at Atlanta-area on Asian Americans is not a stand-alone event but one of many tragic events against our communities, who have endured the long pain. These violent and deplorable acts reflect in part the unprecedented times fueled by the regrettable polarization of our nation. As one of the many AAPI professional societies, the ICSA conveys a strong message that acts of violence and discrimination against AAPI individuals and communities are devastating and utterly unacceptable.
Members of ICSA have been pursuing innovative research in advancing science, enhancing health, and reducing illness and mortalities. Contributions of our members, and surely that of other AAPI communities, have been greatly benefiting all the people, regardless of race and ethnicity, in the United States and around the world. We observe and fully support the White House “Memorandum Condemning and Combating Racism, Xenophobia, and Intolerance Against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the United States,” which denounces the acts of discrimination and hate crimes against the AAPI communities. We commit to support the AAPI communities, to work with other
professional and scientific societies to cultivate a diverse, inclusive, equitable, and productive environment.
We are well aware that racism is not limited to any one group and the journey toward justice is a lifelong commitment to accountability. In collaboration with our sister scientific societies, we want to fully recognize and celebrate the valuable contributions made by AAPI individuals and communities to our society. We are proud to be AAPI statisticians who dedicate their careers to improve the lives of others and to work in many fronts fighting the COVID-19 pandemic. We will continue our mission and work tirelessly to support our members, our AAPI colleagues, and students to meet the challenges facing the AAPI communities and our nation.
